Just over a year ago, Boris and I thought we had made the biggest and boldest decision of our lives. We told our families that we were moving to Savannah, Georgia–a place where we had spent a total of two days.
This is Where the Shock Comes In
Why Georgia out of all places? Well, that’s exactly what our family wanted to know.
No one could figure out what we were doing and why. We were leaving our families, friends, secure jobs, and comforts of a place we had spent the past 20-plus years to one with zero prospects and zero familiar faces.
We weren’t sure what to expect, but we just understood that it was the new chapter we needed.
So, Why Georgia?
In the beginning of our relationship, we had taken a road trip down to Savannah from New Jersey. We had such an amazing time that the entire experience felt magical.
I’m not sure if it was the brightly decorated streets, the warm holiday air or the southern hospitality that had us intoxicated with joy, but we loved it.
It was such a drastic change from what we were used to that the whole atmosphere was refreshing. We half-joked about moving there, but felt it was completely unrealistic.
So, months went by and we were both working at places that were making us miserable. We felt emotionally, physically, and mentally drained as we watched our days melt into each other and drift away so quickly.
Should We Do This?
Soon, the half-jokes turned into full-truths as we discussed the idea of possibly moving.
We were tired of the hustle and grind of the city. We were over the traffic, the noise, and the lightening fast speed that everything was going.
We just needed a minute to breathe.
Well, that minute turned into a year, and the next thing we knew it was time for a new chapter.
Georgia was interesting and the experiences were priceless, but once again, it was time for us to move on.
